FAQs
Can I upgrade my water service connection or make a new connection during construction?
Yes, we are happy to accommodate this when possible; however, property owners will be responsible for any additional construction costs.
To request a new water service connection or upgrade to an existing service, please contact the Project Manager, Michael Gacnik (Email: mgacnik@lincoln.ca). The Town will review this request; if approved, the Town will provide property owners with a quote prepared by our construction contractor for any additional costs associated with the upgrade or new service. Water service connections for greenhouse, residential, or other agricultural use are limited to a maximum service size of 25mm in accordance with Town standards.
Please submit these requests as early as possible. Once the new watermain has been commissioned, upgrades or new services would be required to follow the typical approvals process and be completed privately.
My gas, power, internet or cable service is out, who do I contact?
It is best to contact your gas, electrical, internet or cable service provider directly to report any outage. If the outage was caused by construction, your service provider will coordinate with the construction contractor directly to restore services. The project team coordinates with utility service providers throughout the project to limit potential disruptions.
Will there be any interruptions to my water service?
We anticipate short-term water service interruptions throughout the project while connecting properties to the new watermain. We will inform you at least 48 hours before any scheduled interruptions. We will work to minimize any service interruptions as much as we can. If you experience an unplanned service interruption, please contact the Town of Lincoln at (905) 563-2799 or (905) 641-0971 (after-hours).
What are the paint markings and flags placed around the site?
A necessary part of the construction process is to request locations for all the underground utilities and infrastructure; the law also requires it. These flags and markings indicate to construction workers where they need to take extra care when excavating. This process reduces the potential for any damage to existing utilities and infrastructure during the construction phase.
No action is required on behalf of homeowners for these markings, and you may continue regular maintenance of your property. These markings will be renewed occasionally as required by the contractor.
How will my garbage pickup be impacted during construction?
Garbage pick-up will be as regularly scheduled for property owners during construction. If required, the contractor will carry recycling and garbage bins to a more accessible pickup location and return your containers once emptied.
The Town asks property owners to label their garbage bins with their address before construction. Unmarked bins may be marked by the contractor as required.
How will dust and dirt be controlled during construction?
While construction is active, we expect a certain degree of dust and dirt. We have planned for this and have included provisions for dust control and street sweeping activities to minimize disturbances. In addition, we will work with our contractor to maintain the working area in a neat and organized fashion outside of working hours.
Will I have access to my home or businesses during construction?
Yes, we will maintain access to your homes and businesses during construction. There may be instances where equipment or work temporarily blocks driveways for a short period. Our contractor will notify homeowners in advance of this during construction.
If your driveway access is blocked, you can speak to the on-site construction staff, who will move any equipment or make arrangements to accommodate you. If construction staff are not available and you have any access concerns, please contact a member of the project team. For urgent after-hour inquiries, please phone our 24-hour public works line at (905) 641-0971.
What are the hours of work for the contractor?
The contractor will work generally between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.; however, night-time work will occasionally be required. Please contact Michael Gacnik (Email: mgacnik@lincoln.ca) if you have any concerns with work occurring outside of these hours.
Will I be able to walk through the construction site?
Yes, existing walking access will be accommodated during construction, although we recommend avoiding walking through the site for non-essential purposes as an active construction site.
We ask the public to exercise extra caution when navigating working areas; please read warning signs carefully, avoid heavy equipment, and maintain a clear line of sight with workers and vehicles.
I am planning to refinish my driveway; will it be impacted during construction?
If you are planning to refinish your existing driveway and you are within the project limits please contact the Project Manager, Michael Gacnik (Email: mgacnik@lincoln.ca).
We will confirm if your driveway may be impacted by construction. If you can delay refinishing the driveway until construction is completed, you may be eligible for a partial reimbursement of your new driveway.
