Project Background

Niagara Region is improving its transmission watermain system by replacing approximately 1.7 kilometres along Ontario Street between King Street and Greenlane Road in Lincoln.

In 2019 and again in 2021, there were significant watermain breaks in the existing pipe. These breaks caused major service disruption to the area. During repairs, Niagara Region discovered the watermain was in very poor condition. Providing safe, reliable drinking water is a primary objective of Niagara Region and the Town of Lincoln. The watermain must be replaced to avoid future problems that would affect the community of Beamsville.

Upgrades include the installation of:

  • A new PVC watermain with valve chambers, fittings and joint restraints
  • A new PVC sanitary sewer, maintenance holes and service laterals

The Town of Lincoln is also proposing to replace and upsize approximately 1.7 kilometres of sanitary sewer along the same stretch of road to address aging infrastructure and to meet future growth demands for the area.

Upcoming Work

Work has begun on the installation of a 750mm/600mm sanitary mainline along Ontario Street, starting at Greenlane and moving south towards King Street. The alignment of the new sanitary sewer is primarily on the centre and east side of Ontario Street. For the safety of both construction workers and drivers, traffic control measures will be in place, with one lane open during working hours.

Project Timeline (tentative & weather-dependent)

  • From Greenlane to Friesen: Beginning to late fall 2024
  • Friesen Intersection Work: Early November 2024 (approximately 5 days)
  • From Friesen to John: Mid-November to late November 2024
  • John Street Intersection Work: Late November to early December 2024 (approximately 5 days)
  • From John to King: Early December to late January 2025

Anticipated Road Closures

  • John Street and Ontario Street
  • King Street and Ontario Street

Important Notes:

  • Business access will remain open throughout the project duration.
    • If an access is required to be blocked, the contractor will provide notification.
  • Please expect traffic delays while traveling along Ontario Street.
  • Side street road closures may occur.
  • Night work may be required during the project to minimize daytime disruptions.
  • All timelines are subject to change based on site conditions and weather.

More information regarding specific dates will be provided on this page as they become available.
