This project is being conducted in accordance with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act through the application of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA).

The Class EA process enables the planning and implementation of municipal infrastructure projects taking into account the environmental setting, agency and local public interests and unique project requirements.

Through the Class EA process, this project will consider existing problems and opportunities, alternative strategies, and potential impacts and mitigation. The evaluation of alternatives and assessment of impacts consider the natural, cultural, and socio-economic environmental as well as technical and financial aspects. Over the long term, environmental assessments provide decision makers with the kind of information they need to approve projects that are suitable with a healthy, sustainable environment for both present and future generations.

We anticipate that this study will be complete in the Summer of 2023. 

The road is currently in a poor condition with ongoing stability and erosion issues in areas adjacent to the ravine. Although there have been previous efforts to stabilize the slope and manage erosion, a long-term solution is needed.

The Town and project team are working directly with property owners throughout the decision-making process to ensure that an acceptable solution can be found. Considerations of property impacts have been balanced with the natural, cultural, and socio-economic environmental as well as technical and financial aspects. Property impacts are illustrated in the preliminary design plan included in the PIC materials and will be further detailed in the Project File Report filed at the end of the study.

A preliminary cost estimate has been developed for the preferred solution and will be included in the Project File Report filed at the end of the study. The cost estimate will enable the Town to allocate budget for the future improvements within the Town’s capital budget.

Consultation is an important component of the Environmental Assessment process. Throughout the Project, input will be sought from members of the public, external agencies, Indigenous communities, and potentially interested stakeholders. Through this Public Information Centre website, you can contact the project team to provide comments or notify the project team if you would like to be added to the study mailing list for further study updates. The next project milestone is the filing of the Project File Report, which will be made available for a 30-day public review period within which comments can still be made.

Construction timeframe is still to be confirmed and is subject to Town budget and priorities.
