What is an Environmental Assessment (EA) study and how long will it take?

This project is being conducted in accordance with the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act through the application of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA).

The Class EA process enables the planning and implementation of municipal infrastructure projects taking into account the environmental setting, agency and local public interests and unique project requirements.

Through the Class EA process, this project will consider existing problems and opportunities, alternative strategies, and potential impacts and mitigation. The evaluation of alternatives and assessment of impacts consider the natural, cultural, and socio-economic environmental as well as technical and financial aspects. Over the long term, environmental assessments provide decision makers with the kind of information they need to approve projects that are suitable with a healthy, sustainable environment for both present and future generations.

We anticipate that this study will be complete by Fall 2024.

How can I participate during the environmental assessment?

Consultation is an important component of the Environmental Assessment process. Throughout the Project, input will be sought from members of the public, external agencies, Indigenous communities, and potentially interested stakeholders. There will be two Public Information Centres (PICs) with first being held in November 2023. At the PICs, the project team will be available to answer your questions and receive your feedback. You can also contact the project team at any time throughout the study if would like to provide comments, or if you would like to be added to the study mailing list.
