Town of Lincoln Council has proclaimed 2022 as the Year of the Garden!

The Year of the Garden is a nationwide a celebration of everything garden and gardening related in Canada. The Year of the Garden 2022 celebrates the Centennial of Canada’s horticulture sector, and Communities in Bloom in collaboration with the Canadian Garden Council has invited municipalities to celebrate this commemorative event.

The Town of Lincoln is committed to being a Garden-friendly Town.

Benefits to gardening are many: 

  • Gardens and gardening contribute to the quality of life of our municipality and create safe and healthy places where people can come together.
  • It will highlight and celebrate the important contribution of gardeners, our local gardening organizations, horticultural professionals and local horticultural businesses which contribute to garden culture and the experience garden of our municipality.
  • The Town of Lincoln acknowledges the contribution of gardens and gardening to the development of our country and municipality and the lives of our citizens in terms of health, quality of life and environmental challenges. Gardens and gardening have helped many face the challenges of the COVID pandemic

What's happening this year? 


Stay up-to-date about initiatives and programs happening here in Lincoln to collectively celebrate the Year of the Garden.

In this commemorative year, the Town of Lincoln is resuming our participation in the annual Communities in Bloom program that challenges communities to enhance green spaces, in partnership with the Lincoln Garden Club and Horticultural Society. In alignment with Council’s strategic priorities, the Lincoln in Bloom Garden contest will promotes excellence in gardening, sustainable horticultural practices and instill a sense of pride and accomplishment in our community.

The Town of Lincoln will also plant special flower displays at facilities, use water reducing products including desert planters to protect the environment, and will increase collaboration with the Lincoln Garden Club.


Lincoln In Bloom Garden Contest

The Town of Lincoln and partner Lincoln Garden Club, wish to thank everyone who participated in the 2022 Lincoln in Bloom Garden Contest. We appreciate all those who took the time to nominate gardens, those who have beautified our Town with their gardens, the volunteer judges who provided their time and energy to this contest and our photographer who captured the event.

Winners were announced on July 1, 2022 at the Canada Day celebration at Charles Daley Park, and are noted below:

1st Place 

  • Sue and Bob Paszkat

2nd Place 

  • John and Adeline Lubianecki

3rd Place

  • Joanne Vlaar

Honourable Mention

  • Ryan and Kaitlyn Heffron


Judging criteria included:

  • Garden design
  • Visual appearance
  • Overall "wow" factor
  • Environmental considerations
